Use the tool
Server-assisted: this tool sends the public URL you enter to ToolsDiary only to retrieve the public information needed for the result. It does not upload the video or webpage content itself.
Dedicated support for YouTube, plus public metadata lookup for Dailymotion, Vimeo, TikTok and other video pages.
Video
What this tool does
Paste a YouTube video URL to download its available thumbnail sizes, including high-resolution versions when the video provides them. The same tool can also extract public thumbnail metadata from Dailymotion, Vimeo, TikTok and many other video pages that expose a thumbnail through oEmbed, Open Graph, Twitter cards or structured data.
YouTube exposes multiple thumbnail sizes for videos, while other video platforms may publish one or more thumbnail URLs through public metadata. ToolsDiary checks the platform first, then falls back to standard webpage metadata when a dedicated method is not available. Because this lookup must read the public video page or metadata endpoint, the video URL you enter is sent to the ToolsDiary server for processing. Private, login-only, blocked or JavaScript-only pages may not expose a downloadable thumbnail.
Useful for
- Download the highest available YouTube video thumbnail without taking a screenshot.
- Compare available YouTube thumbnail resolutions before downloading.
- Extract a thumbnail from supported Dailymotion, Vimeo or TikTok video URLs.
- Try public video pages from other websites when they expose standard thumbnail metadata.
How to use it
- Paste the complete public video URL.
- Select Find thumbnails and wait while the page or platform metadata is checked.
- Review the available thumbnail previews, dimensions and quality labels.
- Download the highest-quality thumbnail or choose a specific available size.
Practical tips
- Use the direct video page URL rather than a channel, playlist or search-results URL.
- For YouTube, the highest-resolution thumbnail is only shown when that size actually exists for the video.
- If a generic website returns no thumbnail, the page may hide its media behind JavaScript, login requirements or anti-bot protection.
- Downloading a thumbnail does not grant permission to republish it. Respect the creator’s copyright and the platform’s terms.
Frequently asked questions
Which video websites are supported?
YouTube has dedicated support. Dailymotion, Vimeo and TikTok are handled through their public metadata methods. Other public video pages are supported when they expose a thumbnail through standard metadata such as oEmbed, Open Graph, Twitter cards or structured data.
Can I download a YouTube thumbnail in HD?
Yes. The tool checks the available YouTube thumbnail sizes and displays the highest versions that actually respond for that video.
Why is Max Resolution not available for every YouTube video?
Not every video has every YouTube thumbnail size. The tool only shows a resolution when the corresponding image is available.
Does this download the video itself?
No. This tool only finds and downloads thumbnail images. It does not download or convert the video stream.
Can it work with any video website?
It can work with many public video pages, but no server-side tool can guarantee every website. Private pages, login walls, anti-bot systems and JavaScript-only players may prevent thumbnail discovery.
Does ToolsDiary receive the video URL?
Yes. Unlike fully browser-local tools, this tool sends the public video URL to the ToolsDiary server so it can retrieve public metadata and thumbnail information.
