The tool supports common direct formats such as MP4, WebM, MOV, M4V, OGV and several other standard video file types, then provides a server-assisted download when the file can be verified safely.

This is a direct-media downloader, not a streaming-platform bypass tool. Public pages can deliver video in very different ways: some expose a normal MP4 or WebM file, while others use protected players, signed streaming manifests, segmented HLS/DASH delivery, account controls or platform-specific offline features. ToolsDiary only offers a download when it can identify a direct public video file without bypassing those controls. The public URL you enter is sent to the ToolsDiary server so it can inspect the page and verify media URLs safely.

Practical tips

  • A direct file URL ending in .mp4 or .webm is the most reliable input.
  • Public article, portfolio and self-hosted video pages often work when they expose a normal video source in the page HTML.
  • YouTube, Dailymotion, Vimeo and TikTok page URLs are recognized, but this tool does not bypass their streaming or download controls.
  • HLS and DASH playlists are intentionally not merged or converted by this tool.
  • Only download videos you own, that are licensed for download, or that you otherwise have permission to save.

Frequently asked questions

Can it download videos from every website?

No. It works with direct public video files and public webpages that expose a direct video source. JavaScript-only players, login walls, anti-bot systems, protected streaming, HLS/DASH manifests and platform-controlled delivery may not provide a downloadable file.

Can it download YouTube videos?

YouTube page URLs are recognized, but ToolsDiary does not extract or bypass YouTube streaming URLs. This tool is for direct public video files and webpages that expose a normal downloadable media file.

What about Dailymotion, Vimeo and TikTok?

Their page URLs are recognized as platform-managed video pages. ToolsDiary does not bypass their player or streaming controls. A separate direct public video-file URL can still be checked like any other direct media URL.

Which file formats are supported?

The detector accepts common direct video types including MP4, WebM, MOV, M4V, OGV, MPEG, AVI and 3GP when the remote server identifies the resource as video or the direct URL clearly uses a supported video extension.

Does ToolsDiary receive the URL?

Yes. This is a server-assisted URL tool. The public URL is sent to ToolsDiary so the server can validate the destination, inspect public page metadata and verify the direct media file.

Is there a file-size limit?

Yes. The server-assisted download is limited to 250 MB per detected file in this version to protect the website from excessive memory, bandwidth and timeout usage.

Does downloading a file give me permission to reuse it?

No. Technical access and copyright permission are separate. Only download and reuse media when you have the required rights or permission.
